Group June 2016 – FUN!

 

Description/Itinerary

This trip is to open everyone ages 10 and above.  Madeline Island will be your homebase for Apostle Islands fun and exploration!   You will get the opportunity to kayak in the acclaimed sea caves, boat on the big waters of Lake Superior and hike the majestic trails on various islands.

Thursday, you drive up to Madeline Island.  It is a ~4 hour drive from the Twin Cities.  Plan to start driving up by ~9am Thursday morning.  We highly recommend car pooling and we will help coordinate that!   The drive brings you to Bayfield Wisconsin where you will take a ferry to Madeline Island.  You can bring your car on the ferry and trip price does include ferry fees.  After we get you settled in your cozy lodging, we will start showing you the gem spots of the islands!

The captain may pull the boat into a cave!

We start with the Big Bay State Park for a hike see the sea stacks, caves, and shores of Madeline Island on Lake Superior. Following our hike we will have a camp-out at our lodging with all the fixings will be provided. The evening will conclude with relaxing around the fire under the Northwood’s stars.

Friday we will venture into the Apostle Islands by power boat for a full day boat tour.  We will go to the best sea caves in the archipelago, Devils Island and hike the Singing Sands beach on Julian Bay at Stockton Island.  Along the way you will see the Fedora shipwreck, the view atop Raspberry and Devils Island lighthouses, and the historic Manitou Island fish camp.   Lunch will be provided on the boat.  After the boat tour, dinner will be at the Beach Club where you will have a front row seat to the coming and going of the Madeline Island ferry.  After dinner a short hike at Grant’s Point is the perfect way to close the evening.

Saturday we will start the morning at Big Bay Town Park where we will paddle across the bay into the State Park where

you will have the opportunity to experience the sea caves here on Madeline Island up close.

The afternoon will be yours to explore. Madeline Island offers a quaint library, museum, and an assortment of shops that should keep you entertained.  Or you may want to just relax on the beautiful Big Bay Town Park Beach.

In the evening when we will convene for dinner at The Pub where you will yet again have a front row seat to an amazing Lake Superior sunset.

Our last morning together, Sunday, you will have your choice of paddle boarding on the shores near downtown La Pointe, a round of golf, or hiking on the north end of the island on Burroughs Trail.

Other activities are available on the island, not included in this package.

Dates/Time

  • Thursday -Arrive (~2/3pm), Hike the Big Bay State Park, Cookout
  • Friday – Full Day Boat Tour (10am), Dinner at Beach Club and sunset hike at Grant’s Point
  • Saturday – Kayaking morning, afternoon free time and/or options
  • Sunday – Depart for home (am)

 

Transportation

You are responsible for your own transportation to Madeline Island. If you are interested in carpooling, let us know and we will try to coordinate!

 Tour Participation

  • Tour is limited to 12 participants based on boats and kayaks.
  • All fitness levels are welcome.

 Trip Logistics

Registered participants will be given more trip logistics, packing lists, the itinerary, carpool arrangements, as well as answers to any questions you may have. You will also receive contact information for Adventure Vacations, should additional questions arise.

 Cancellation Policy

Adventure Vacations Cancellation Policy is four weeks or more prior to the trip date you receive a full refund.  50% refund provided 2-4 weeks prior to trip.  No refunds given after two weeks before the trip date.

Weather Constraints Policy

If any planned activities are canceled due to weather, alternative activities will be offered.  If there is a difference in cost of activity, a refund will provided upon conclusion of the trip.  If the entire trip is cancelled due to extreme weather conditions or low enrollment, you will receive a full refund.
